What hardware do I need to buy for my deck?

Depends on the project installation and area where you are building the deck. HIDDEN  DECK FASTENERS are used for exotic hardwoods to attached boards, this requires a screw per clip. The screws are used for softwoods and hardwoods and they are thermally modified to attach the clips, there are 6 different colors that perfectly match with each deck. The deck pedestals are designed to achieve an altitude and help with horizontal decking structure. Hardwood plugs the perfect object to hide every screw. And finally but not last, the deck tile connector,  that will help to attach 4 deck tiles with the help of fasteners.

What oil should I use for my Atlanta deck?

Given the fact that Atlanta has a temperate climate, your deck will last longer than in other areas of the country.  We carry a variety of UV protecting oils and sealers that are specifically made for hardwood decks.  Our sales team will be happy to go over all the different properties that each of the oils and sealers have to offer.  The seaer will help to protect the wood grain and prevent cracks and splits. The Ipe Oil Plus from deck Wise will help to ensure protection and a better look to enhance a darker color.

How much does it cost to install a deck in Atlanta?

This will largely depend on the material you choose and the total area you actually want your deck to cover.  Most projects are measured out in square feet. Our hardwood is sold by the linear foot.

One of our sales associates would be happy to help you calculate the amount of material needed. Or call us to get a free quote (877) 535-0614

If you are interested in calculating it yourself, here is an explanation of how to do so:

In order to calculate linear from square footage you will have to know what your board width is and the gap between the boards.  Look at the chart below to see what number to multiply your square footage by.

For Decking Projects with a maximum 1/4” gap:

Board WidthMultiply by
4” decking boards3.43
6” decking boards2.2
  1. A) What is your square footage?  _______
  2. B) What is your board length?  ________
  3. C) What multiplying number does your board length correspond to? ______

Multiply A x C to get the linear footage required for your project.

Here is are two example:

Example 1.

You have a 12’ by 10’ area that you want to cover with an ipe deck.   You have chosen 1×4 ipe deck boards and would like to know how many linear feet of ipe decking to buy.

  • 12’x10’ = 120 square feet to cover
  • For 4″ decking, multiply your square footage x 3.43
  • 120 square feet x 3.43 = 412 linear feet of material.

Example 2.

You have a 6’x12’ deck you will cover with 5/4 X 6 cumaru decking.

  • 6’x12’ = 72 square feet
  • For 6” decking multiply by 2.2
  • 72 x 2.2 = 159 linear feet of cumaru

Again, the calculations above are for projects that have a ¼” gap.  If tongue & groove boards are used, then use the following chart:

For Decking Projects with tongue and groove:

Board WidthMultiply by
4” decking boards3.84
6” decking boards2.34

Please note this does not include any waste for cut offs. We strongly urge ordering 5-10% more material for waste.  Again, we would be happy to calculate the amount of material you will need. Just give us a call at (877) 535-0614

Which wood should I choose for my Atlanta deck?

All of our wood products can be the right choice for you. However, each of them differs in durability, resistance, pricing, looks, and dimensions, meaning that each will serve a different purpose. For example, if you are looking for a wood that can resist heavy foot traffic and can stand all the elements, maybe one of our top hardwoods such as Ipe, Cumaru or Jatoba is the right choice for you.

How long will my deck last?

This will depend on the type of wood you choose to install and the care you give to your deck. It will also depend on where you are installing the deck, i.e. if it is north or south facing, if it is partially covered or fully exposed to the sun, what vegetation surrounds it, amongst other factors. Some of our hardwoods, like Cumaru, are proven to last over 50 years without the use of preservatives. Even though this may seem like a lot of time, it is always a great idea to increase your deck’s longevity with the right deck maintenance products.

Call (877) 535-0614 to learn more about the longevity of our different hardwoods.

How do I maintain my deck?

There is a wide variety of maintenance products you can choose from to take proper care of your deck.  We sell a deck cleaning and brightening kit that many clients like to apply yearly.  You should regularly wash it and sweep it to avoid damage, you can try oiling it too. Also, on a yearly basis, it is best to apply sealers and oils to give it that extra protection. Constantly check your deck for damage in areas close to the ground and water.

Give us a call at (877) 535-0614 to learn more about maintenance.

What is the difference between hardwood and composite decks?

The main difference is the material composition. Hardwood is a natural material that will need regular maintenance and composite decking, just a quick wash with water-soap. In durability, the best option is hardwood. It has a longer life expectancy and is more resistant over a long-time period. Composite decks might deteriorate and curve easily. The esthetic might be relevant for some customers but it’s just perception.
